Military sources in Libya have disclosed that a helicopter carrying 23 people crashed on Tuesday, October 27, off the coast of Al-Maya.
The helicopter allegedly went down after coming under heavy fire, 25 km east of Libyan capital Tripoli.

Col. Ali Sheikhy, military spokesman of Libya’s outgoing General National Congress (parliament), confirmed that the helicopter was distressed from heavy gun attack in Al-Maya, causing it to crash.
According to Xinhua, a military official said: “An ambulance helicopter crashed off the coast of Al-Maya, as it was transporting 23 individuals including military officials.”
The official confirmed that Twelve bodies had been recovered, and among the recovered are the bodies of two military officials of Libya’s Dawn militias, Hosein Bodaya and Duhain Al-Rammah.

There are fears that no one might survive the crash, as the helicopter was fully submerged in deep sea water.
Libya has been a sad state of insecurity and chaos since 2011, following the overthrow of Muammar Gaddafi’s regime.
The violence has been escalating especially within the Western Tripoli region, as clashes between Libya’s Dawn militias and forces loyal to the internationally recognised House of Representatives (parliament) continue without end.
